Church Welcome Video 2026 — Idea Board

Every idea on the table for the new Mustang Creek welcome video. Grab what you need. Tiers show where a topic lives, not how much it matters.

Goal & Audience

Goal: make a first-time visitor feel safe before they ever walk in. They finish the video thinking: "I know what will happen when I arrive, and these people want me there."

Audience: the nervous first-timer checking the church out online. Not members. Not donors.

Method: real people telling real stories on camera. Interview-driven.

Style rule: show, don't tell. Instead of saying "we are diverse," show diverse faces. Instead of saying "we are Bible-based," show a sermon moment. Stories, not adjectives.
Rule for the main video: every second must answer a scared visitor's question. "What happens when I walk in? Will my kids be safe? Will people like me?"

Repurposing Map

One shoot weekend feeds everything.

  • Main 2–3 min video = Tier 1 + best of Tier 2
  • 30-sec cut = pastor cameo + worship moment + "we saved you a seat"
  • Social clips (15–30 sec) = each Tier 2 topic stands alone + Tier 3 items
  • Monthly videos = baptism stories, serving stories, prayer stories
  • Website clips = kids check-in loop on kids page, facility b-roll backgrounds

Cast List (draft)

Names still open. Fill 1–2 people per slot, then tailor questions to their real story.

  • New family (came in last year, kids in kids ministry)
  • Person who came alone
  • Long-time member who serves
  • Kids ministry volunteer
  • Prayer ministry leader or someone prayer helped
  • Teen or youth parent
  • Pastor + wife (own dedicated block)

Interview Questions

Off-camera style: subject looks just off-lens at the interviewer; interviewer's voice is cut in the edit. 15–20 min each. Warm up easy; emotion comes late.

Rules for the room: full sentences (fold the question into the answer). Stories, not adjectives; when they give an adjective, ask "tell me about a time that happened." Count 3 seconds of silence after each answer; the best line often comes next.

Universal (ask everyone)

  • What was going on in your life when you first came here?
  • What were you afraid of before you walked in?
  • What do you remember about your very first Sunday?
  • What made you come back a second time?
  • If a friend was nervous about visiting, what would you tell them?

New family

  • Walk me through your first morning, from the parking lot.
  • What did your kids say in the car on the way home?
  • What did you worry about as a parent before you came?
  • What would you tell a parent who's on the fence?

Person who came alone

  • What's it like walking into a church by yourself?
  • Did anyone talk to you that first day? What did they do?
  • When did it start feeling like YOUR church?

Long-time member who serves

  • Why do you still show up after all these years?
  • What do you get out of serving?
  • Tell me about someone you met here you never would have known otherwise.

Kids ministry volunteer

  • What do you wish parents knew about what happens in that room?
  • Tell me about a kid who changed while you watched.
  • What does check-in and safety actually look like?

Prayer story person

  • What was happening when you asked for prayer?
  • What did they actually do? What did it feel like?
  • How are things different now?

Youth parent or teen

  • (Parent) What did your teenager think after the first visit?
  • (Teen) Be honest: is church boring here? Why not?
  • What happens at youth on a normal night?

Pastor + wife (dedicated block, banked footage)

  • 30 sec direct to camera: "If you're watching this and thinking about visiting, we saved you a seat." (5–6 takes, vary tone)
  • What do you want a first-time visitor to know before Sunday?
  • What's this church like on a normal week, not a stage week?
  • What's changed here in the last few years?
  • (Wife) What do you tell someone who says "church people will judge me"?
  • Fun stuff for social: how you met, favorite thing about this town, Sunday morning routine.

B-Roll Shot List (same day)

  • Parking lot walk-in, doors opening, greeters
  • Kids check-in station, tags, hallway to kids rooms
  • Coffee station, lobby conversations
  • Worship wide shots, hands, faces (all ages/backgrounds)
  • Sermon moment, Bibles open
  • Prayer moment at the altar or lobby
  • Exterior + sign for openers
  • Room tone recorded while there

Decisions Made (7/16/26 planning session)

D1

Audience = first-time visitor. Video's job is to kill fear before the first visit.

D2

This video replaces the old one (~4 years old). Old topics are raw material to sort, not a template.

D3

Multiple versions from one shoot: main 2–3 min, ~30-sec cut, social clips, raw content bank.

D4

New since the old video: prayer ministries grew a lot; new lead pastor.

D5

Pastor appears in some versions, not all. Dedicated shoot block for pastor + wife, banked and repurposed.

D6

Tier ranking approved as shown above.

D7

Style rule: show, don't tell. Interviews pull stories, not adjectives.

D8

Translation topic CUT from all versions. Revisit only if demographics shift.

D9

Off-camera interviewer. Subject looks just off-lens; interviewer's voice is cut in edit. One camera is enough.

Still Open

  • Shoot dates + which service(s) to film
  • Cast names (1–2 people per slot)
